Charitable Giving

Americans are among the most generous people in the world. Their charitable contributions run into the trillions of dollars each year.

Many of our clients wish to make charitable gifts when they die. These gifts may or may not be motivated by tax considerations. When they are not, we draft provisions in their estate planning instruments which provide for their gifts upon their death. Special directions or instructions may be included to the charity as part of the bequest.

Some of our clients do charitable planning which may be based, in part, upon tax considerations. In such circumstances we assist our clients in creating charitable remainder trusts, charitable lead trusts, or forming family foundations. These tools allow our clients to obtain immediate or future tax benefits in the form of reduced or avoided capital gains taxes, charitable deductions from their income or estate taxes, or increased income streams.
